Isle of Man Steam and Rail

The spectacular Isle of Man is only 30 miles long offering heritage railways, coastal drives, museums along with a  many more tourist attractions. Our hotel is based in the capital of Douglas making it an ideal base to explore this  island. This stunning tour will include a guided tour of the island including the famous TT course along with two  railway journeys and moving Knockaloe Visitor Centre, an unforgettable and memorable holiday.

The Empress Hotel

This elegant Victorian hotel looks directly overlooks Dougals Bay and is situated within walking  distance of Douglas town centre. All bedrooms are well appointed with TV and tea/coffee  making facilities. There is open plan bar area which offers a perfect place to relax in along with  restaurant. Leisure facilities include gym, sauna and steam room, there is also a lift to all floors.

Day 1: We depart the Northeast and make our way to Heysham for our crossing over to the Isle of Man. Once we  arrive will make our way to Douglas for our 4-night stay.

 Day 2 – 4:

• Guided tour of the Isle of Man. We follow the famous TT course today with our guide. We first head North to  fascinating Isle of Man Motor Museum which has a collection of over 500 exhibits from around the world,  including classic cars and motorbikes. We then make our way to the beautiful fishing port of peel where you will  have free time to explore before making our way to Knockaloe Visitor Centre. This is the site of a WW1  internment camp. A truly moving experience where we learn about the thousands of people who were interned  here and what life was truly like for them between 1914 & 1919.
• Manx Electric Railway is our port of call today. A classic electric inter-urban tramway running alongside the  islands eastern coast. We board the railway at Douglas and make our way to Ramsey. Once here you will have  free time in Ramsey before making our way back to Douglas via coach.
• Today we make our way to the south of the Island. We make a brief comfort stop at Castletown before making  our way to the National Folk Museum & Park. This delightful, restored 19th century crofting village offers a unique experience. Traditional costumed guides show us around their village before we make the short journey  to The Sound. Here there is an excellent café and is a protected nature reserve with seabird and seal colonies offering stunning views across to the Calf of Man. Next stop is Port Erin where we jump on board the Steam  Railway and make our journey back to Douglas enjoying the stunning scenery.

 Day 5: Sadly, we make our way home today with comfort stops enroute arriving back late-afternoon.
